Festival of Sleep Day National Drinking Straw Day 1870 - Construction of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York commenced. 1888 - The first artificial drinking straw was patented. 1926 - George Martin was born. He was referred to as the "fifth Beatle" because of his involvement with each of the Beatles' albums. He was an English record producer, arranger, composer, conductor, audio engineer and musician. He died in 2016. 1956 - Mel Gibson was born. He is an American-Australian actor, director, producer, screenwriter and filmmaker. He is best known for his role as Max Rockatansky in the first three Mad Max movies and as Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon. He also starred in The Bounty, Braveheart and Hacksaw Ridge, to name a few.
