Isn't technology wonderful?

Yes - but only when it works properly! A couple of evenings ago an attempt to print a document on my printer was greeted with horrible grating, crunching noises followed by a sheet of paper becoming stuck inside. I eventually managed to manouvre it free but my printer still sounded like it was chewing tin cans and nothing I did fixed it. Still, it's about 18 months old and only cost £40 and I've used it quite a bit so I reckon I got my money's worth out of it - time to invest in a new one! Mind you, it isn't the cost of a new printer which worries me, it's the cost of the ink cartridges! Genuine manufacturer's ink cartridges for that printer cost almost as much as the printer did. I'll see if I can pick a cheaper one this time.

@mrki444 I dislike setting up a new printer. It never goes smoothly!

Your situation is almost 100% what happened with me. My printer started making horrible grinding noises; and I could no longer open up the door to the ink cartridges. I ended up buying a new printer. HP has an interesting program in which you may get away with spending $1/month for ink.

A dollar a month would be a bargain for me! I'll take a look at HP printers when I go for a new one.

@ScotMac It depends on how much you print each month. I got an HP Envy 7855 on sale for $100 off.

This is why I change to use laser printer already as the printing cost is cheaper. Sometimes you have to still print something every week to avoid the ink is dry if you use the ink printer. Whereas a toner cartridge won't have this disadvantage. Besides, a toner cartridge can print a lot of documents and it is not so expensive to buy it.
