Meg Altman is looking for a new home on the Upper West Side in Manhattan with her 11-year-old diabetic daughter, Sarah. They find a four-story brownstone with a panic room in the master bedroom. Realtor, Lydia Lynch, says that the previous owner was a reclusive millionaire. The panic room has 4" walls, a security system, a separate phone line and security cameras. Meg decides to move in right away. Meg attempts to wire the phone system in the panic room but gives up and goes to bed.
Later that night three men break into the house. Junior, the grandson of the former owner, Burnham, an employee of the security system company of the type which is installed in the panic room and a buddy of Junior's, Raoul. Burnham is not happy about having this stranger on their team. It was supposed to be just the two of them -- in and out and done. They are in the house to steal $3 million in bearer bonds stored in the floor safe in the panic room. The three men notice that the townhouse is occupied. Burnham is angry at Junior for not following up to see when the Altmans were moving in. Burnham threatens to leave because he does not want to stay with people in the house. Junior persuades him to stay.
If you want to find out what happens next, you will have to watch the movie. There is plenty of suspense; and Jodie Foster is good at playing a desperate victim. This is a movie you won't want to miss.
This movie is rated R.
