Why pilot wears a scarf?

It may seem to be cool for the pilot to wear a scarf, but actually the scarf is very useful. The silk scarf prevents neck chafing. It can keep warm, too. And the pilot can use the scarf to clean the goggles lenses. I think out another reason. Perhaps the white scarf can be a sign to show the surrender?

@youless No. Pilot had only windshield infront of head but above head they didn't have anything like cabine.
