Last night I finished my first book of the year. It was called Enemies by Tijan and it was a roller coaster of emotion. I love Tijan because she can write so well, but the thing she seems to write well about are tragedies. In Enemies, Dusty looses everything and the man she hates is the one taking care of her. Because I want you to draw your opinion first, I'll post the synopsis. "Stone Reeves was my neighbor, and I've hated him since sixth grade. Gorgeous and charismatic, he became the town's football God, while I became the town's invisible girl. He went to a Division 1 school for football, while my father was fired by his father. His team won the National Championship, while my mother died the same day. He was a first round pick for the NFL... ...While I made the worst decision in my life. Now I'm in Texas trying to pick up the pieces of my life. But Stone is here. Stone is everywhere. It doesn't matter that disaster has struck my life again. It doesn't matter that he's the one trying to console me. It doesn't matter that he's the nation's newest football obsession. Because for me, he always has been and always will be my enemy." Tijan is amazing. She starts Dusty's life with the second disaster in her life instead of all the way back at the beginning. I think that way it's not on repeat because some books can have quite a few things happen to their heroine and it can make it redundant. Not in this book. Dusty had lost her mom a few years before and she grieved hard. While she was dying of cancer, Stone's father was trying to run them out of town. It was a hard time for them and Stone's family made it that much harder on them. Stone and Dusty had been best friends but in sixth grad something happened. Stone just left her behind and she never forgave him for it. Then it was the son was just as bad as the father. Stone didn't turn out to be a bad guy. A bit of an a**hole but what guy can't be. He never knew what his father did to Dusty's family but he never forgot Dusty. He just hyper-focused on football and it paid off for him. Stone got everything he wanted while Dusty lost it all and now she needed him. Whether she wanted to admit it or not. Trust, she really didn't want to need him. As she tries to pick up the pieces of her life she slowly starts to realize that she never really hated him. It was Stone's parents that she hated and she could easily fall for him. Stone isn't the long game though and that's what she needs. Safety and stability where she hasn't had either of those things in years. Walking away might kill her or it might wake both of them up to what was right in front of their eyes the whole time. I would totally recommend this book. I took the roller coaster with Dusty and I felt for her every step of the way. She can break your heart at times but she really just wants to feel normal in some way. Stone is the alpha that you root for because he really is a good guy but he seems a little lost when Dusty comes back into the picture and he finds out what his father did. He knows what's in front of him, I think but he doesn't think he's ready for it...until he almost looses it. Story of having a love life lol. If you do read it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. *image from google*
