Before any festival starts we need to clean our home. I did that today, 2 more rooms are left though. I am taking a bit of break, it was tiring. We will be celebrating a 3 day festival from tomorrow. First day is called Bhogi, second day is the main festival Makar Sankranthi and third day is Kanumu. A major activity early tomorrow morning is the burning of all things that are bad or of no use, a sort of cleansing ceremony. Before the sunrise, people make a bonfire with logs of wood, other solid fuels, and old wooden furniture. The disposal of unused items is symbolic of giving up old habits, attachments and material things and they are thrown into the sacrificial fire. We are going to do that early tomorrow morning. We have a few cardboard pieces to throw.

Whole India is busy with the first festival celebration of the year. Well it's different names in different states Bogi is from Andhra. My friend used to invite me for that. Today it's lohri in Punjab. We celebrate Makar sankranti thay is on 15. South India celebrates Pongal and that is also three days festival.

We celebrate sankranti but Bhogi is not celebrated this side but it looks similar to what we celebrate previous day of Diwali called as Narak Chaturdashi where in Narkasur, the symbol of dirt is cremated early in the morning. Happy festival to you.

Yes it is somewhat similar to naraka chaturdashi. Bhogi is celebrated in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It is celebrated in an elaborate way in all the villages, not much in the main cities.
