Encephalopathy Caused By Flu Causes Girl To Go Blind

I read about a girl going blind after the flu caused her brain to swell. I've heard flu shots have some risk, some people are hard line against them, but to avoid flu complications like the one I mention, I'd say the vaccination is worthwhile. Last I read, it's unknown whether the girl is temporarily or permanently sightless.

I would imagine that the girl's loss of sight depends on the hydroencephalitis, if it goes down hopefully her eyesight will return. Our eyes are so fragile. I lost my eyesight following brain surgery to have a tumor removed. The trauma of the surgery caused the swelling and I was 'blind' for 3 days following the operation. I was never so happy to see again after that ordeal. I hope that this little girl has the same experience.

@Juliaacv glad you recovered your sight. I had a friend in school who was blind (permanently, he was born that way) and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. He was a pretty resilient kid, but he needed help w/so much that sighted people probably rarely if ever even think about, broke my heart.

I hope the girl's vision will return. I don't know if I've ever had the flu, but I would definitely not refuse a flu shot, especially if blindness is a possibility (though probably very rare).

I hope her vision comes back. It's devastating to loose your sight. Eyes are so precious.
