It's Time To Make Homemade Soup!

We are getting ready to get the coldest weather this winter. I have all the ingredients to make a wonderful homemade soup! I am a soup person ... and truly I can eat soups winter, summer, spring ... whenever. I try to make a 'little' soup but, I can't. I always end up with the biggest stockpot filled to the top with wonderful homemade soup. The good thing is ... we have friends who love the soup I make so ... we take them a big container of soup each time I make it. I use all kinds of vegetables ... corn, green peas, green beans ... butter beans, onion, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes ... beef (cubed ... and ground beef) ... chicken breast, shredded. I let it cook several hours. Oh my ... it is so good with lots of saltines. Skip loves my soup, also. Well ... I just might make soup tomorrow or Friday. Probably Friday ... why? I just remembered ... I have pork chops for tomorrow's supper. Who else makes soup? What are your ingredients?

Our usual soup is the egg noodle that is cheap but nutritious since we add one egg in the finale. Our best soup is the chicken/pork macaroni soup but we only cook it for occasions.

I have not made soup in a long time but one of my favorites includes a smoked ham hock and some beef short ribs. I boil then first to make the bouillion. To the meat, I also add barley because that takes a long time to cook. Once the meat and barley are ready I add cubed potatoes and when they get tender I finally stir in plucked spinach leaves. This kind of spinach soup my mom always made. The meat gets taken out and eaten on the side with horseradish or mustard. The bowls are filled with chopped boiled eggs and the soup poured over them. Stir through a spoonful of sour cream and you have some meal. Mom always made her soups just like big meals. But on my own, I could not make such a big soup.

I love making home made soup through out the year. This time of year I enjoy vegetable soup. I also make tomato, cream of mushroom, chicken and vegetables. I'm thinking this weekend will be a good one to restock our freezer with some.

I like thicker soups and this is the time of year for them! My favourites are bean soup and clam chowder... I think that is a soup

@marlina Me too, I only make it when I can get the clams. I've only one tin right now and couldn't find anymore, but it will soon be time to make some

I make soup but a very plain one, the one which has tomato and carrot.... I just boil them and put salt and black pepper.... With bit of corn flour to make it thick.... But homemade soups are surely the best

I like soup, too. Here the soup plays a main role in our diet. We have many kinds of soups here. Usually the Chinese soups are lighter and clearer, but I also like the western style soups which are thicker.
