We have two out of the three kids derby cars done and decorated. My husband just out the wheels on a few minute ago. We really need to have both the kids. My daughter did the red car with little flowers. I did some of the little touch ups for her but all of the painting is hers. My son wanted to do a Zelda car so I did help with the painting in the symbol for that but the rest he did. It’s Green in the top and golf on sides. Next weekend is the big race day for the kids. Going to finish up the big kids stuff.

The race is more fun then the building. The building party in with the kids on is boring.

I very fondly remember building my pinewood derby cars from my days in Scouting! My dad was a master carpenter, so he helped me create the most amazing cars! We would put a lot of care and detail into them, including shaping, sanding, painting and coating them in polyurethane! I guess all that hard work paid off, because I came in either first or second every year I raced!

My husband would go all out for them but we don’t have like a craft spot or anything. I can’t cut wood but I can decorate very crafty in other areas. I helped a little with the kids decorating but the designs are all the kids

@ShyBear88 My dad made my brother and I do all the work on our cars. He was a good artist, so he sketched out the designs for us, and then it was up to us to cut, carve, whittle, and sand the cars into the shape we wanted. Yeah, I can understand the limitations on working on the cars if there's not really a spot to work on them. We were lucky that my dad had a wood shop.

Awesome and a fun activity to do at home. They did great with the painting too! Good luck to the oldest on race day!

It’s not really fun putting it together. The race is fun to see.
