Day 167 Promise 218 Psalm 72:1 (A Psalm for Solomon.) Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s son. 2 He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment. 3 The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness. 4 He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor. 5 They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations. 6 He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth. 7 In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endures. 8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth. 9 They who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust. 10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. 11 Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him. 12 For he shall deliver the needy when he cries; the poor also, and him who hath no helper. 13 He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy. 14 He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight. 15 And he shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: prayer also shall be made for him continually; and daily shall he be praised. 16 There shall be a handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth. 17 His name shall endure forever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed. 18 Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only does wondrous things. 19 And blessed be his glorious name forever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen. 20 The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended. When you start anything, you need help and guidance to see it through to the end. Solomon was on the throne of Israel. His main request was for God’s help to rule His people. He stood on the promises he saw fulfilled through his father, David. He knew God would deliver him from his enemies the same as He did for his father. He knew where his salvation came from. Not from horses and chariots or the strength of his might, but from God alone and it was His strength he relied on as he took over the kingdom of Israel from his father. As Christians, you are to stand on the promises given throughout God’s Word. God promised salvation through His Son, Jesus and He promised deliverance from your enemies. Every ‘shall’ in this psalm is a promise of what God will do for His people. His promise is to save and deliver. Who does He save and deliver you from? Your number one enemy is Satan. He comes against you from every side. When you think you’re seeing the light ahead, Satan comes against you to blot out the light. However, when you put your faith and hope in Jesus Christ, the Light, He will deliver you with His mighty power. He will save you from all trouble. Paul said your afflictions, trouble, were light and temporary. 2 Corinthians 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. If Paul, who wrote most of the letters to the churches from prison could see his troubles as momentary in the face of what was to come, eternal life, then you can come against your trouble with faith and patience, and God will deliver you. Satan cannot stand against God. When you seek God’s salvation and deliverance, He will come to your aid and vanquish your enemy so you live in peace and safety. Let’s pray: Father, help me see my trouble as momentary as I trust in You to come against Satan when he comes against me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
