Should we fear death?

Lately I've been feeling a tad philosophical and wonder why we fear death??... I honestly do not fear dying but do know I would be devastated if I lost a close member...
Ever since I was a child I heard on TV about the end of the world and would feel frightened about it but my grams would always calm me down and say the world has been here for millions of years and it would continue on existing for several million more. That what ends is people's lives on Earth. I always kept that in mind.
I'm a person who likes to enjoy life. Who thinks that as long as we are living we should make the best out of it. I honestly don't fear dying.

I am raising my granddaughter at the moment so I fear that I will die before she is independent. In a few years I will be easier about dying but I hope I don't have a painful ending.

Having a painful ending does shake me as well. I understand. Your granddaughter is very young still. I would want my grams to be eternal.

@EleonorRigby My health is good at the moment and I hope it will stay that way. I will be 70 at the end of this year .. I really can't believe how the time has flown by.

@sprite1950 in my years I feel the same, that time has flown so fast. I'm glad your health is good. That is always a main goal, to be healthy.

I went through a phase, in my teens, where I really feared that the world was going to end. I had been watching a programme on TV about certain nations building up their armies ready for world war three. That was about 43 years ago, and I am glad to say , that we are all still here today.

I sometimes felt that fear in my childhood as well. Whenever I saw that type of shows. I guess this paranoia in the media will always prevail.
