A bridge across the Atlantic?

Well, not the whole Atlantic, just a small part of it. This photograph shows a bridge in Scotland which, technically, spans part of the Atlantic Ocean. It's a well-known tourist attraction which has its picture taken many times each year - and I have been one of the photographers. But think about it - how cool would a bridge over the entire Atlantic Ocean (or a tunnel suspended under the surface) from the USA to Ireland or maybe Scotland be? Believe it or not the engineering problems and the economics of just such a plan have been studied. It's not likely to be a bridge/tunnel where you can drive your own car but is more likely to be similar to the Channel Tunnel between the UK and France which is a rail tunnel transporting vehicles of all sizes on special carriages. It's not gonna happen any time soon but, with advances in engineering techniques and materials science who knows what might come in the future? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transatlantic_tunnel

There won't be flying any more under the green new deal.

The cost of such an endeavour would be too enormous.

@ScotMac That would take centuries. There would have to be electric charge stations along the way plus rest room facilities etc.

@JohnRoberts The best option would be a rail tunnel, like the Channel Tunnel

It would but that would be recouped from charging a toll per vehicle

Connecting America with Europe by a road through Atlantic ocean is a great Idea. We may not be able to see it but it may be a possibility in near future.

The cost would be prohibitive; and I could not see myself traveling under the water for an extended period of time!!!

It would take co-operation between governments to fund it plus a large chunk from the private sector but it's not impossible
