Mirabelle Buttersfield is in her 20s, formerly of Vermont and a recent college graduate. She is finding life in Los Angeles not quite what she thought it would be. An aspiring artist, she is working at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills at the women's evening gloves counter. She has heavy student loans and can barely make the minimum payments each month. She spends her days on her feet, bored and daydreaming about a life that those around her are leading. She has no friends and lives a solitary life in her apartment, which doesn't help her chronic clinical depression...but her life is about to change.
While at a laundromat one evening she meets Jeremy. He's a poor, twenty-something graphic designer for an amplifier manufacturer who is aspiring to be a typographer. Out of desperation she calls him and goes out on a date that she pays for and which is followed by a lackluster sexual encounter. Jeremy really doesn't know how to treat a woman.
Mirabelle meets Ray Porter at the gloves counter. He's a considerably older, suave, well-dressed man. He asks her opinion on some gloves and has them delivered to her apartment with a note asking her out to dinner. Ray is a wealthy logician that travels back and forth from Seattle to Los Angeles on business.
If you want to see what happens next, you will have to watch the movie. I love this movie; and I've watched it several times. I think it's one that you will enjoy.
This movie is rated R.
