Day 173
Promise 224, 225, 226, 227, 228, 229, 230, 231
Psalm 91:1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most-High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely, he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flies by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness; nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the Most-High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.
Do you feel safe when you go about your business or spend leisure time with family and friends?
There’s no name given for the author of this Psalm. I’m going out on a limb and believe it to be one of David’s psalms. It reads the same as the other psalms bearing his name.
David spent time in God’s presence daily and saw God work in his life. He credited God with every victory over his enemies and praised God in every crisis. This psalm is an example of his fervency toward God. He cites several promises to God’s people.
1. He who dwells in the secret place of the Most-High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2. Surely, he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
3. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
4. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
5. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
6. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
7. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
8. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.
As Christians, most of you know this psalm and can recite it, or have it bookmarked to read often when trouble comes your way.
When you spend time in God’s presence on a regular basis, you get to know Him and what He requires of you. You have an intimate relationship with Him as God and Father. He knows your heart and you know His.
When you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, you completed the circle of salvation God promised Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. God promised them a Savior to deliver them from all their sins.
God promised He would protect, deliver, and save all those who called on Him.
As His child, you are not without God’s presence in your life. As He did for David, He will do for you. He will keep you safe. He will not allow any danger to come near you. His angels will surround you and keep you safe. Even when Satan attacks, you will trample him under your feet. He set His love on you because you know His name. He will give you a long life.
In the world we live in, we see danger all around us. Terrorism surrounds us. We cannot escape. Yet, God promised deliverance. If you die because of an act of terrorism, or natural disaster, God brings you to Himself to live with Him for eternity. You are never without God.
Do you trust God to deliver you and keep you safe? Have you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord? Are you His child?
Let’s pray: Father, You know my heart, my life, and everything about me. I cannot hide from You and I don’t want to. Keep me safe as You promised. Hide me under your wings when Satan attacks and bring me into Your presence when this life is over. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
