1785 - The University of Georgia was founded, the first public university in the United States.
1820 - A Russian expedition discovers the continent of Antarctica.
1832 - Lewis Carroll was born. He was an English novelist, poet and mathematician. He is best known for writing Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. He died in 1898.
1964 - Bridget Fonda was born. She is a retired American actress. Some of her movies: Godfather Part III, Single White Female, It Could Happen to You and Jackie Brown. She is the daughter of Peter Fonda, the niece of Jane Fonda and the granddaughter of Henry Fonda.
