Complaint from school

It was a bad afternoon for me today. My 6 year old son was punished in his class because he actually misbehaved in the class. The teacher took the correct step to punish him because even i was noticing that he was becoming disobedient. He used to be a very quiet and obedient child. But, for the past one month I'm seeing a drastic change in his personality. Am i going wrong somewhere in my parenting?

It is very common behaviour by a six years old. No need to worry just correct with love and affection. He already got punishment so you must show your love and concern to him. He won't repeat that mistake again.

It's normal for children to act up sometimes. I wouldn't worry about it now unless it continues.

@amitkokiladitya that's good. He could have been prompted to act up by some of his school mates.

You *have* to mention your son's age. One can't comment on this without knowing it.

@amitkokiladitya Sorry. I overlooked that. I was a teacher at a secondary school. My youngest pupils were 10 years old. I've never taught at an elementary school and can't interpret your son's behaviour. Have you talked to his teacher(s)? Have they also noticed a change in behaviour? Just telling you that he is disobedient doesn't help much. Does he have problems in class? Is he perhaps too young and should have started school later? Is he bullied? The member @TheHorse is a child psychologist. Maybe he has some good pieces of advice for you.

A sudden change in behavior usually does mean that something significant happened in the child's environment. Don't blame yourself. Do you know of any changes around him (new house, new kid in the class, etc.) that could be distressing him? At 6, he won't be able to fully articulate what he's feeling, so he'll act it out. I'd listen for "themes" in his dramatic play. When he playing with his blocks, or Legos, or cars, what kinds of scenarios does he create? That can be a window into what he's thinking.

That sounds tough because i can't figure out anything that can be troubling him. But i can really figure out a big change in his behaviour and he is losing his innocence gradually and become a bit stubborn

Since he is only six you can easily convey him to change the bad attitude into a good one. I think a heart to heart talk with him will surely enlighten you why he is behaving like that...
