Apparently, Florida really isn't the most messed up state in the union...

There is a law in Florida called the Florida Sunshine Law which was passed in 1995. It allows for open use and request of public records within the State.
This law probably contributes to a lot of the articles and clips we see about Floridians. Which means that Florida Natives probably aren't as crazy as social media wants you to believe.. probably
You can request most documentation within reason. You aren't likely to gain access to private emails between government officials, but that seems to be the only thing that isn't allowed. Florida also won't let you see documents that the federal government has deemed non - public.
Oh, and you don't have to give a reason for requesting such documentation either...

I'd heard of it before, but didn't know what it entailed.

Personally, I don't think the law is such a good idea. I can see a lot of libel suits coming from this.

I am wondering if it hasn't already been abused? I mean, it's been in existence since '95, I'm sure someone has taken advantage of it somehow.
