Before I get into today’s song from the rock side with “love” in the title, I have to give a calming announcement: relax, John. She’ll be along soon. With that said (and my neck saved, momentarily anyway), here’s today’s song from the top ten. #7: Faithless Love - J.D. Souther That’s right, not Linda’s version but the songwriter himself! No doubt singing about himself (“where did I go wrong? Too many stories and too many heartbreak songs”), Souther admits what kind of reputation he had (the late Judee Sill wrote a song about being spurned by Souther, which Ronstadt later covered [and, oddly enough, so did Warren Zevon]). Just another notch on the bedpost, but man, does Souther (and Ronstadt’s gorgeous cover) make it sound great. Faithless Love Written by John David Souther Recorded by J.D. Souther From Black Rose, 1976 (Also recorded by Linda Ronstadt, 1974) Down in some valley:
