Me Fat!

A fellow parent saw me at the bank and called me out, delightedly, I hoped. A brief chat ensued, both of us updated each other about our grown up children. Somehow, she managed to bring up the matter of money again. She was, by far, richer than poor me. And she loved to subtly condescend me each time about her being rich. But money is of no consequence to me. She knew that, too. So, she resorted to that truth I always get affected about - 'Why are you so fat?'
I am, actually! From the stress eating I subjected my self into. Securing documents for legal purposes is always overwhelming for me. So, a cheeseburger at the drive-thru, which became one too many, did satisfy my tummy and calmed my nerves.
Talk about what people who don't like you say to you. The truth.
Ha ha. Glad for this fellow parent's condescension.

Well there are really people that can at times unwittingly insensitive about how others would feel when they want to converse with others. I really do not know why the first thing that comes out of their minds is the size of the person they are conversing with. Anyway Good that you have handled the situation well since for many who are in that situation may feel a bit offended by it.

@eileenleyva I think it's within our culture that besides the usual greeting of How are you? it usually comes with the weight or size appearance. I do not know but I too am greeted that way and sometimes I fall guilty of that one too.

@rsa101 I only say that to family, especially my daughters. With friends and acquaintances, I do find ways to tell them subtly about their weight. Remarks could affect people psychologically.

Have come to terms with my built and my size. I can easily shake off pounds, too.
I do agree with you that greeting someone by their weight appearance is unethical. I also believe that people who comment like this don't have much in their grey cells. Otherwise, they could come up with better ideas as response to 'Kumusta ka?'

What a horrible woman. I think I would have said "why are you such a spiteful cow?". I would never ever make a personal remark like that to someone. It's unforgivable.

Some people think that their money is an entitlement to put others down. To make their own selves feel superior.

@sprite1950 Actually, I think it is just her thing - to make her self feel better.
Truth is, what she said was helpful for me.

Yes, thank you. The comment did not affect me, but actually made me think that my weight gain could be detrimental to my physical being.

@lovinangelsinstead21 Oh, she's actually able to keep her features svelte. Her wardrobe is that of a fashion model's.

I think she was very rude and disrespectful. Your body shape is your own problem, I am sure that you are aware of your weight. She just wanted to make you feel bad.
From my work colleagues I have noticed that they call each other "taba" very often. Is it common for you also?
Eating junk food and burgers is not good for our health, it's good to eliminate them from our diet. Exercising works much better for stress relief.

Taba means fat. Yup, Filipinos actually are super conscious about weight. I find that shallow, though. Weight is personal. Body types differ.
Junk food has no place in my pantry. I am a daily milk drinker. That probably causes my weight gain.

@besweet Yup, you are right, the drive thru cheeseburgers were the culprits. But all to my own doing.
Thanks for the reminder about junk food. I forgot the cheeseburgers were also junk.

@eileenleyva I mentioned junk food only because of the drive thru cheeseburger in your post, it's good that you are eating healthy. I find that having fruits and salad as side for my lunch helps me eat less and maintain steady weight.

She just wants me to feel uncomfortable so she could feel good about her self. Some people are really like that. In fact, many people are like that.

I don't like such an arrogant woman. There are many other richer ones but they hide their being rich.

What's her business if you have gained weight. Don't these people realize that not every one is just disciplined when it comes loosing weight.
