We’ve reached Valentines Day and the end of my countdown of favorite “love” songs. You’ve been dying to know what my favorite song is with “love” in the title! I know you have! (Ha, I know better, you’re just glad this is over so I can get to the requested countdown about blue eyes!
) Don’t complain, because I know this isn’t “rock” but rather pop (or a “standard”). When I counted down my favorite pop standards in 2018 this was near the top, so it should be no surprise it’s at the top of “love” favorites.
#1: Secret Love - Doris Day
Many people only knew Doris Day for her animal activism later in life. I grew up with her TV show (with the theme song of “Que Sera Sera”), so I knew she was a singer and an actor as well as an animal lover.
Oh, was she a singer. And, while I am way too young to remember when this was originally a hit (hey, my brother wasn’t even born yet when this was a hit!) and first heard this courtesy of the Freddy Fender cover, there is nothing like this rendition.
I hope you enjoy this lovely voice and lovely song. And thanks for reading. Happy Valentines Day!
Secret Love
Written by Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster
Recorded by Doris Day
Released as a single, 1953
Also in the film Calamity Jane, 1953

Curses on you! This song is coming on a future list of mine so you will have to hear it again. I do have to take issue with it being under "rock." 1953 was prior to rock but you made your explanation. You know what would have competed for my top spot on my list: "Lotta Love" or "Love is a Rose." Or maybe "Love Rollercoaster"! I guess I couldn't have used "When Will I Be Loved."

I am quite familiar with Doris Day and her songs. She was quite popular when I was growing up.
