I was a girl scout, camping being one of the memories I can easily click to mind. I can recite the scout motto up to now by heart. My daughters were girl scouts, too. Scouting is training grounds. Discipline is instilled in the scouters in a kinda natural way. Then this ugly news comes out now? Sigh.

That is a generalization. Perhaps what seems good was really evil in guise of good. As to this story, that does not apply. There are many scouts who are truly good.

I was a boy scout. I was pressured by older boys to do some very ugly things while camping. the pressure was very heavy. I refused and quit the scouts when I got back home. I can imagine that weaker willed kids would fall victim to that pressure. I cannot picture a leader being the abuser. It is sad, and I truly enjoyed what I learned before that. I suppose had I said something at the time those boys might have been removed. Truth is I did not trust that I would be believed. After all, those boys had been part of the troop for years, while I was relatively new.
