International Tug-of-War Day National Chocolate Mint Day 1878 - Thomas Edison patented the phonograph. 1985 - William J. Schroeder becomes the first artificial heart recipient to leave the hospital. 1940 - Smokey Robinson was born. He is an American singer, songwriter and record producer. He was the lead singer and founder of the Miracles (originally called the Five Chimes) from 1955-1972. In 1973 he pursued a solo career. Robinson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. 1955 - Johnny Paycheck passed away. He was born in 1938 and was well known for his recording of Take This Job and Shove It. He was an American singer, songwriter and guitarist.
