Doctor Leo Marvin is an egotistical psychotherapist who is anxiously looking forward to being on "Good Morning America". He will be promoting his book, "Baby Steps", which is his philosophy of treating patients and their phobias.
Bob Wiley is a patient who is afraid to leave his apartment and has a variety of phobias and neuroses. His old therapist has tired of Bob since he's not getting better and he's terribly annoying; so he has referred him to Dr. Leo Marvin. Bob feels comfortable with Dr. Marvin and feels that he's made progress with just one session. Dr. Marvin, on the other hand, is eager to get rid of Bob and head toward Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire, for a month-long vacation with his family: wife, Fay, Son, Sigmund "Siggy" and daughter Anna.
Bob, unable to cope, has followed Leo to New Hampshire. By taking "baby steps" he was able to leave the apartment, get on the bus and travel to New Hampshire. Dr. Marvin is annoyed because he does not see patients when he's on vacation. He tells Bob to "take a vacation" from his problems.
Do you want to know what happens next? Then you will have to watch the movie. This isn't my most favorite movie...I'm not a big fan of Bill Murray; but I did enjoy it somewhat; so I would recommend it.
This movie is rated PG.
