New chicks on the block

Our backyard hen and rooster have produced 2 chicks. My kids are so excited to raise them. It's their first time to hatch chicks and they guard them when possible so the neighbor's cats won't kill them. One of the chicks that we bought two years ago had been slain and eaten by a neighborhood cat. They're free range and without a mama hen so danger was there. These new chicks are still free range but they've got mama hen with them so I'm hoping they won't be attacked by these pesky neighborhood cats. I really wish there's a way to get rid of these cats. Any tips?? :)

You are right to be wary of cats. The chicks of our neighbor are being eaten by a cat.

@almostoveryou it was really sad when the chick that is small and fragile would be eaten by a cat.

It must be so much exciting for your children to enjoy these new members. I am not sure how to get rid of these cats. I just pray these little ones stay safe from them.

Yes, I love seeing my kids getting busy with animals and other things in the natural world. The mama hen is so far keeping the two chicks safe.

@almostoveryou It's wonderful. Kids need such experience to rejoice the sense of life. Good to know that mama hen is doing a good job.

Yes, I'm thinking of having a pen made for these chickens. For now, they are free-range.
