"Who controls the past controls the future...."

In the year 1984 there was quite a stir in the media concerning the book with the same name as the year. They pointed out there were many correlations such as cameras watching us and wire taping and so forth. Though a friend of of George Orwell stated that the author started to write the book in 1948 and just switched the last two years, so no worries. Thankfully, Orwell's story did not become our present truth, at least the whole truth. 1984 is a very sad and bleak look at a future time where every thought and every action is scrutinized and if failure of conformation happens then your worst fears will be realized by Big Brother. Fears that would make even the strongest person waver. They will seek out your inner terrors and either comply or live through the horror of your worst nightmare. Orwell invented many slogans that appear in his story: big brother, thought police, ministries of peace, love, truth and plenty, thought criminal (just having a bad thought against the government), newspeak and perpetual war. This is a great book, but if you haven't read it, then be prepared for intense feelings of anger, horror and sadness, and then be ready for happiness that it's just a novel.

I read it in school, and I'm not sure I would read it today, since it's quite scary it could come true and there's a possibility that it's already starting.

Orwell's vision is still frightfully relevant today

Fortunately, nothing everything in that bleak book has come to pass.
