Are air purifiers worth buying?

Hi everyone! A very good morning to all. The road being reconstruction,and all the smoke and noise are directly coming into my room since we live in the ground floor. The construction is said to last for a while and I cannot bear it any longer

So what I want to know is,does an air purifier really purifies the air? Do you have one? Which one would you suggest?

I have used only air humidifier and it helped me a lot, I could feel a big difference. For purifierb I don't have any input. I assume it will do some difference in the air quality.

I feel they are good only if you are asthamatic. For normal people it tends to reduce the immunity

There are not much trees near my flat. So that is not an option
