No eyes yesterday. Nothing but illness yesterday. Now that I’m feeling better (still a long way to go before I can have White Castles for lunch and Taco Bell for dinner, though 
), it’s time to resume the list of favorite songs that mention my favorite eye color. Here’s today’s song.
#6: Sweet Little Miss Blue Eyes - Ray Price
It’s funny how things happen in the world of bluegrass. This song, written by Hank Williams’ steel guitar player, Don Helms, was a hit for Ray Price in the mid-50s. (Price employed most of the members of the Drifting Cowboys after Williams died.) Then Jim & Jesse covered it....and bang! It’s a bluegrass standard. (That also happened with a song I’ve featured before, “Fox On the Run” [not the Sweet song!]: it was originally recorded by Manfred Mann, but a bluegrass act covered it and now it’s hard to think of it as anything but a bluegrass song!)
The first version I heard was Price’s, so that’s the one I’m going with. It’s a happy, upbeat song about being in love....not exactly what you’d expect from someone from Hank Williams’ band!
