What a Chicken Bog is

In my discussion called Hungry Shopping, I said that I bought the stuff to cook a chicken bog. So this is what a chicken bog is, but first I'll tell you how I found out what it was. For those of you that live in other countries, the places that I talk about are in the United States. I was born and raised in Florida, way before the internet were you could look everything up , so I never heard of chicken bog until I was around 15 years old. I went to school with my future sister in law, her family had moved there from the state of South Carolina. I still remember her asking me one day if I wanted to eat supper with her because her mother was cooking a big pot of chicken bog. The first thing that came out of my mouth was "What the heck is a chicken bog" About everyone from South Carolina can tell you what it is. If you haven't guessed by now, this is dish that people make in South Carolina. So this is what chicken bog is: It's a big ole pot of chicken, rice and smoked sausage with a whole lot of different seasoning in it. People puts all kinds of stuff in it, I know people that even put ham hocks in it. People also use different types of rice in it to, some just use plain white rice, while others like me use yellow rice. Chicken bog is really popular in South Carolina . the town of Loris SC, which is located close to Myrtle Beach, has a festival called The Loris Bog Off every October where they have a contest to see who makes the best chicken bog. People come from all over the different areas of the state just to compete. People even makes this for fund raising events sometimes and it's something that is often brought to family or church dinners to. Well I hope I explained was it is good enough were everyone understands what it is.So if your ever in South Carolina and you see some, try it and see what you think about it.
