I came across this on my computer when I was deleting some files and whatnot. This story happened when I was 16 I’m now 22. My venturer troupe were on a hike and they decided to take a route we had never taken before. I went over the map so many times but I wasn’t at all confident there was just a bad feeling about it. I had packed my bag torch, food, first aid kit, tarp, rope etc... it wasn’t an overnight hike but in case we caught out I wanted to be prepared (again the bad feeling). What happened on the hike still makes my skin crawl. We assembled in the carpark of the walking trail and were allocated Scouts. My boyfriend at the time (Kitch for the story) and I had a group of 6 scouts, 2 cubs and 1 Joey it was a linking event. The parents left and we set off on our hike to the first check point. Our first check point was a large open area it had floodlights. We were one of the first groups to arrive but we had to wait for everyone. More groups arrived and we were mingling so people could have a drink break or some scroggin (trail mix). I was standing around and one of the boys came jogging over to kitch I walked over hands in my pockets “what are you talking about? The boy said something about a pentagram. my eyes narrowed "Are you sure its a pentagram?” The boy was saying how it was a huuuuge pentagram easily 10 meters across I frowned and told him to show me. As a teen I was fascinated by all things from other religions and subcultures. I thought maybe it was a wiccan ritual they hadn’t cleared up. We wandered over and as soon as I saw it my stomach lurched it was indeed huge but it had other symbols around it. My skin started to crawl “we shouldn’t be here...” the boy that told us about the symbol scoffed “what you scared?” I shook my head and studied the etchings “Its fresh if it’s a wiccan ritual we are interrupting and that’s just a sh*t thing to do” they all rolled their eyes including Kitch. I looked around fascinated by it until I saw a figure in the trees my blood ran cold. “Kitch... we need to leave now...” he frowned at me asking why. “There are people in the damn tree line watching us...” Kitch scoffed and pulled me close telling me it was just my imagination playing tricks. I shook my head and pushed him away gently. I looked to the tree line again the figure was gone my blood got colder and I cursed myself for looking away my eyes roamed to a different spot as if drawn there. I saw a silhouetted figure leant against a tree watching me. I moved backwards keeping my eye on it I nudged Kitch's arm and he looked around. His jaw dropped "Holy sh*t there are people over there there is like 10 of them..." I was confused I could only see one but then my eyes adjusted that little bit more and I could see figures of other people. “Think we should leave now?” I said to an empty space as I realised my boyfriend. My 6’ 5” full of muscle athlete boyfriend had cut and run along with the others leaving me there on my own. What can I say I was pissed but that was cut short by registering a cloaked figure striding toward me I ran slip sliding in the loose sand. The figure seemed totally unbothered It was getting closer... closer... It was reaching for me... I could sense its hand about to close on the collar of my shirt... my lungs were burning and my legs screaming... I was going to get caught. Then after what seemed like an age my feet hit solid dirt and I pulled away from the figure I pounded the ground hard all the way back to the group. I looked back expecting to see the figure right behind me but there was nothing I didn’t question it I was just glad to be rid of the thing. I walked over to the leaders that were on the hike with us. “Is everyone here now?” I asked wide eyed with an urgency to my voice. “yeh, Why?” I nodded “Good we need to take the fire trail just up here out of this park right now.” The leaders looked stunned but also kind of dopey. “Why?” (I feel the need to mention that these leaders have been in scouting since the beginning). “Because I just got chased by a cloaked figure after being ditched by the macho brothers” I nodded over to the boys stood in the centre of the lit area not talking and pale. The leaders laughed “ahuh sure you did.” Two of them turned their backs on me indicating end of discussion. I flushed red in anger. I went over to my group the older scouts Mika and Hannah Mika piped up “what happened?” I tried to ease their concern by pushing out fear and anger out of my voice “some creepo followed me but its fine theyre gone now. But I want us to keep walking now. Can you guys check if everyone has everything and are ready to go. Remember to do a head count as well and tell me if anyone is missing okay?” They nodded I could tell Hannah was lacking confidence so I hunkered down a little. “Sometimes you need to do something out of your comfort zone to grow okay? And it will happen when you join venturers” She nodded and pulled out a checklist “Ill be right back okay.” She nodded again and I left her to help Mika. Striding over to Kitch I stopped in front of him crossing my arms “You want to tell me what the f*ck that was?” He hung his head “Sorry I thought you could handle it.” I peered at him “You thought I a 5’ 4” 16 year old female could handle a group of people 10+ people?” he nodded and looked at his feet. “We’re continuing the walk but we are going to take the high path okay?” Kitch frowned “But we're supposed to go through the bushy areas.” I scowled at him and lowered my voice “We aren't taking them through the bushy area after that.” I turned on my heel and walked back to the group Mika and Hannah had everyone packed up and ready to go. I told them that they did an excellent job and we set out along the track it was about 100m till the fork in the road the right would take us into dense bush the left would take us into more of a scrubland type surrounding. The entire time we were walking I kept a sharp eye out for any figures in bushes or in the tree line I was relieved when we came to the fork in the road. I could get into deep sh*t for taking my group down the track on the left but I didn’t care I’d rather take the path with more visibility than the path with dense undergrowth and the possibility of one of the kids getting lost or taken. Kitch went to lead them down the path on the right and I caught his arm “No we aren’t going that way... too risky” Kitch rolled his eyes “Uoure being paranoid nothing is going to happen if we go this way. Plus I don’t want to get into sh*t okay?” I shook my head “no we’re going the left path it also has a shorter fire route in case something happens.” Kitch gave an exacerbated sigh “Alright, fine. But if we get into sh*t I’m going to blame it on you” I smiled a bit “I can live with that.” We took the left path it was a windy path but I knew it I had been hiking in the park for years. We took a short break so the kids could take a rest I was sat on a log looking around like a meerkat sentry. The openness didn’t give that much comfort but I felt better about taking this path I didn’t care if I got into trouble. We were packing up when I heard a scream and shouts. My heart leapt into my throat. My head snapped up and I whipped round. We could see down onto the sense bush path and there was one of the groups I could see people surrounding them. “Kitch take the group to my aunts house via the fire path call the police as soon as you get reception.” He shook his head “no Im not leaving you behind.” I gave him a pointed look “ahuh well you did last time with apparent ease so Im sure you can manage.” He nodded “point taken.” I watched him go. before bolting for the steep hill at the edge of the path. I ran down it feet a blur skidding on loose pebbles and stumbling on clumped roots. I was almost to the path when searing pain tore through my calf muscles. I yelped in pain and looked down stinging nettles and brambles were intertwined and I had run straight into them. Blood was running down my legs but I pushed on. I stepped onto the path and shouted at the cloaked figures. “Oi leave them alone.” The boy that pointed out the pentagram shook his head "Dont antagonise them." Ignoring his warning I grabbed a rock and threw it. I regretted it when it clocked the 7ft cloaked figure over the top of the head. I reared back and bolted as a guttural snarl reached my ears... That alone sparked a hit of adrenaline I wound through the scrub hoping to lose whatever it was. (It because a human couldn’t make a noise like it did). It was right on me but its size meant that it was having issues keeping up through the shrubbery. I slowed to a jog, then my legs went out from under me. I fell but rolled and came up managing to get my feet under me once again. There was a bit of a clearning and I could see the path I could also see the group with 2 of the leaders in it. I banked right and led it right to the path now in the clearer part it was right on my tail. I bolted across the path infront of one of the leaders he bellowed at me for nearly tripping him up which was cut short by 'it' colliding with him. I heard a panicked screech and a snarl. I turned back running over to the group the kids were screaming so was one of the other leaders. 'It' was disentangling its self from the leader and it tried to scuttle away but it collapsed groaning in pain. I realised what the leader and the group were screaming about the leaders leg had been broken in several places and was already swelling badly. 'It' also had a broken leg though the way it was moving was making the leg flop uselessly. Sickening grinding sounds emenating from it as the bones rubbed and crunched together. I grabbed it by the cloak near the neck and sat on it picking up a large rock. “Don’t f*cking move. I will drop it, it is big, and it is heavy, Im sure you know what sort of damage it would do.” It snarled at me I got a horrible feeling that it wasn’t human just something about its energy was wayyy off. Power mostly I was enthralled by it. I reached out and took hold of the back of its hood but hesitated did I want to see what it was? I slowly pulled a little and it bucked I was thrown off and flung easily two meters. I landed heavily on a rock and screamed the figure got up drawing itself up to its full height. Crossing over to me it hunkered down the kids screams reverberating through my head as it got fuzzy. It put a gloved hand on my head I tried jerking away and put my hand up my hand lightly scraping the fabric but it made contact with me. It spoke to me its voice soft and calm. It straightened and strode into the woods. I watched it go even with my vision clouding and it disappeared into the encroaching darkness. I woke up in hospital groggy and disoriented with pain in my ribs. Kitch was asleep in a chair I looked to the door and realised I was under police guard which made me sit bolt upright. I squealed in pain and Kitch jerked awake crossing to my bedside trying to comfort me. We both looked up as a middle aged man in a police uniform strode in. “Evening Im presuming you are Fae?” I nodded and croaked out a "yes." He nodded “We didn’t find anyone that matched the description of the man that chased you.” I nodded “Understandable I don’t think it was actually really there at all. Probably just a mass hallucination” Kitch looked at me like I was dumb “A mass hallucination wouldn’t be able to throw you 2m and bruise your ribs” I nodded “No me falling on a rock could though...” the man in uniform nodded. That is true you could have but we found material fibers under your fingernails.” I peered at him the lights hurting my eyes “I mean my jacket is from China?” He shook his head. “No, they were a lot older than that... a few thousand years older." I couldn't help myself I giggled "Wouldn't material that old disintergrate? The police man nodded “In some circumstances yes they would.” I tipped my head. "So there is a feral human out there with robes older than our country?" The Police officer cleared his throat. "It would seem that way. There was some error with the results I presume." He apologised for bothering us turned on his heel and left. I still go to the park sometimes it is a great place to hike. I only occasionally see a tall figure in a cloak... I told Bones about this he was concerned.
