Two cases of Corona Virus in my county

United States
March 12, 2020 3:48pm CST
There have been a few cases in North Carolina already, but they have all been towards the coast. Today the Governor made a statement including the county I live in as the counties impacted with the virus. The two people infected just came back from a cruise. Now it seems closer than ever, and I begin to wonder if the grocery shelves are picked over. One of my local chains sent an email out to everyone saying that they were taking measures to sanitize more spaces in their store and working to keep the shelves stocked with disinfectant wipes and other cleaning items that people have been buying. I sit here and wonder if I should make a second grocery store visit this week, just in case some of the foods we love become low in stock due to the virus. What have you been doing different since the corona virus outbreak?

Nothing different here, as I already wash my hands alot and our stores still have a whole lot of everything.

I worry because there are some people in my family that have compromised immune systems already.

@Courtlynn My cousin has mitochondrial disease and she already has respiratory problems and heart problems. If she gets it, it could kill her.

Nothing different here. The more people react to it, the worse it is likely to become.

This is true. I do worry because of my cousin though. She's already got the mitochondrial disease that is wreaking havoc on her. She's in the hospital, and I can't help but wonder if that is the best place for her since you can get sicker at the hospital than out of it.

Our stores here have many shelves that are bare. It's a madhouse and feels like it's the end of the world.

A relative went to the big walmart yesterday and said it was pretty barren then. I am hoping when i go to the store on Wednesday the shelves will be replenished.

@simone10 We went to one store yesterday and there was nothing but kleenex. The rest of the store (that I saw, as we didnt' go all around it) was still pretty stocked. We called two walmarts and they didn't have any. Today we were able to get paper towels and kleenex, but still no toilet paper.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I hope it is but I have a feeling people will know when new shipments come in and will be ready. It's amazing how many selfish and greedy people there are. And it's not just here in the U.S., it's all over the world.

They are quarantined but I can't help but wonder who they came in contact with and who they are.

@ScribbledAdNauseum the quest is to find those people who got in contact with them. They might be carriers.

We are stocked up with food and toilet paper. Those cruise ships have not been good! We don't have any cases yet in our county. 3 in an adjoining county and one in another. Stay safe and healthy!

The grocery store I go to most often sent out an email saying that they are taking increasing measures to keep their stores clean and stocked with things we need. I have considered getting a whole bunch of stuff and just staying indoors for the most part. Not for myself, but for the diabetic in the household who doesn't want to admit he has diabetes and is more susceptible.

@LindaOHio Oh no, he definitely should not be out and about with those two conditions.

@ScribbledAdNauseum My hubs has asthma and a heart condition; and we are both "elderly". We are ready to stay put for 2-3 weeks if necessary.

Yes, I am sure we are going to have a lot of news about people getting home from cruises or off of planes. I guess you heard about Tom Hanks?

@CarolDM I heard about it last night on the news. Today I've seen a bunch of memes about Tom Hanks, one of him holding Wilson, the volleyball from Castaway.

There has been a difference since the corona virus came to my country, every time I stopped at the supermarket ... it was very quiet and could still be counted on my fingers.

Yes, people are trying to distance themselves from each other. Around the world, things will be pretty different for awhile.

I am not sure if the cases in my county have increased. The only thing I've done different is to stop paying attention to the news.
