Has anyone ever experienced horrible natural disasters where your from? Like an earthquake, tsunami, hurricane, avalanche, etc. Tell us about your experience.... I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area and experienced one of the huge earthquakes out there in 1989, it was VERY SCARY!! The lampposts were swaying back and forth, the ground was just vibrating badly, our apt building was shaking like it was going to fall to the ground, then we watched in horror on the news as they showed the Bay Bridge collapse, cliffside homes slide into the ocean and everyone looting, it was really bad...Just awful, it was one of my most traumatic moments in life.

The only real natural disasters we get here are tornados. When we lived on the farm, we had one go through our back 7 and almost rip the roof off our house. We slept through it.

I have been through a couple minor earthquakes, a couple tornados, a couple floods... and too many hurricanes, and some no name storms that were pretty bad. The wind was so strong and howling. Lightning was crashing. Trees were ripped up from the ground. Power lines went down. Crazy stuff.

I've never been thru anything that terrible. My brother-in-law and his wife live in San Jose, so we've heard stories from them, plus we saw lots of coverage on TV. However, I'm sure we can't imagine what it would be like actually being there. While we lived in Tennessee there was a small earthquake one night, but my husband and I both slept right through it, and it did no damage. We were the victims of what they called a "mini-tornado" once which tore the roofed deck off of our house, and that was bad enough for us.
