Quarantine with a Toddler

March 25, 2020 2:29pm CST
Okay guys I need some help. Washington State governor put a stay at home order in place on Monday. Im looking for new and interesting things to do with my toddler while we are stuck at home. He is 1.5 and very independent but I want to do more than just sit and watch him play with his cars. Anyone have some good ideas of something that you or a friend has done with a toddler indoors that was fun?

Reading to them is always helpful. Getting down and playing with them whether it be cars or coloring or something else works well too. We've had three of them some years ago, (they are grown now) but getting directly involved with what they are doing and on their level works wonders.

How did you get your kids to pay attention while you were reading to them? My son has never paid attention at all.

Reading is the best! Makes them babies smarter! Great suggestions.

@redfire757 my mum used to read us horror stories for us to pay attention. That is when they develop comprehwnsion and imagination.

First, I pray your family is holding up ok in these tough and crazy times! I also have a toddler. I'm a mom of 7! Ages range from 2 to 22! My daughter absolutely LOVES coloring. Give her a crayon and any kind of paper and she is set! Lol But I read a great idea the other day. Finger painting! But with yogurt. You can use vanilla and pit it in separate little containers and color them each with a different food coloring. Non toxic and so fun for them! Also right now since everything is closed, a lot of museums are doing online viewing. You can even check out some zoo's online. I also will put learning videos or music videos from YouTube on for her. She's just started singing along a little bit with the ABC's. You could also make one of those clay things that you make a hand or foot print on so you can save that for when they are bigger ? Good luck finding your sweet little one tons of fun things to do! Make memories momma!

At that age children are full of energy, perhaps you could do some indoor exercises with him. This will tire him out and he will sleep better.

Maybe teaching the easy counting by hand then using safe things as he advances. Or show him easy house hold chores like picking his own toys after playing.

For handling small kids is very hard. I think they love toys, colourful images a lot and bolloons too. Try to give them.

I am absolutely positive that you will find plenty to do to keep a toddler occupied. Give him some containers with lids along with his toy cars and he will come up with games of his own making. You will learn much about him during this lockdown.

I think it's a good idea to just stay at home at this time of crisis. We don't know what may bring if we insist to go out? Just be concern of your family.

They stated they are looking for things to do while being stuck at home. I did not catch where they stated anything about leaving.
