Pulling weeds...

I got two five gallon buckets worth of cutting and weed pulling in today--one from the back yard and one from the front yard. There are several California poppies and these tall things with purple flowers at the top in the rocks, too--I am leaving them alone for the time being because there are a ton of actual weedy things to deal with. While I was out there, a man came by with his little girl--she was on one of those "walking bikes". The man said something about my now having time to pull the weeds, and the little girl said she liked my flowers. She asked if they were roses, and I said, "The orange ones? No, sweetie, those are California Poppies." The man said something to his daughter about, "Remember? We live in California, now." and the little girl told me they had moved there from Arizona. Yes, we were at least six feet away during this conversation. It's nice that we can at least talk to people during this nuttiness...
