Anxiety of an Essential Worker

United States

I work in a grocery store and I've been suffering from some anxiety since the whole pandemic began. At first it was the overwhelming amount of customers but now it's just the possibility of catching the virus. I did get sick a few days ago with some chest pain, vomiting, and a sore throat but now all I have left is the chest pain and nausea. I also have not been a cashier in the past 3 weeks and I start that again on Sunday. I'm not looking forward to the influx of angry and scared customers. Today I had a phone appointment with my primary care doctor and she thinks I should take the day off tomorrow to try and ease my anxiety. I still need the money but not sure if I really should take the day off.

I would feel the same as you! This is not something to take lightly, but if you don’t feel well, stay home.

@SunnyBunch I know the test would give you peace of mind, but it’s rotten how scare they are.

I did stay home today. I really wish I could get a test so I can put this all to rest and have peace of mind.

I think we're all suffering from a little anxiety since this pandemic began. I just try to take things one day at a time, control those things I can control, and let go of those things I cannot control.

Yes, that's all we can do. We have to be patient and be ready to fight until the quarantine is lifted.

I spoke with my doctor and she is suggesting I stay home from work one more day to see if it's anxiety or virus. Hopefully it's anxiety.

Being on a skeletal workforce, you must be given proper protective gear by the management. Let's just that your test is negative from any serious illness.

Luckily we have gloves and hand wipes everywhere in my store. Just wish we were allowed to wear the face masks.
