`Hammer to fall' is written by John Lawton who is a well known author of this sort of story. This book falls into the spy thriller genre and it is set in the 1960s during the Cold War. The main character is a spy called Joe Wilderness, who has appeared in some of John Lawton`s previous books. Wilderness is sent to Finland on a mission but there is not much happening in Finland during that time and Joe and his comrades get bored . They end up smuggling some very dodgy alcohol to the Russians amongst other activities. The Russians are short of many things during that time and they are having to use secret documents as toilet paper. When Wilderness is ordered to steal Russian secret documents and sent them to the UK ,he does as he is ordered . This is one of the funnier parts of the story.

They could not flush the papers and the spy had been ordered to send these documents to the UK government. So he did as he was ordered to do and sent them sacks full of it. Pity the person who opened the sacks.

@lazydaizee _I'm not familiar with John Lawton although in my younger years when there was no internet I use to gorge on spy thrillers. From the plot I get an inkling the author has a funny bone and a dry wit.
