Favorite CCR Songs: Fortunate Son (#11)

No foolin’, here’s another song from one of America’s greatest rock bands ever, Creedence Clearwater Revival! I’m counting down 15 favorites (that could easily be 20....or 25....) from this legendary band who owned the rock world for a very short period of time (they released six albums in two years!) and still remain favorites of people who weren’t even born then. Here’s today’s sing-along. #11: Fortunate Son John Fogerty grew up in the 60s, got a draft notice, and even served in the Army Reserves (according to Picky Wedia, Fogerty said he thinks the recruiter did him a favor by backdating the enlistment papers Fogerty signed). So he knows what he’s talking about. This just cannot be explained to younger people, who think the 60s were all Beatles, Woodstock, music, and love: that was one tough decade. Those of us who lived through it are having no trouble lounging in the back yard with some tea (iced or hot, depending on the weather and time of day) and a Kindle to wait this pandemic out. Yeah, we got good music out of the 60s, but it came at a horrible price: political assassinations, riots, protests, and unrest like you’ve never seen. Fogerty definitely knew the score then, that the richer (and, reportedly, more Caucasian) an 18-year-old was the less likely he was to go off to an unpopular war. A great song from a bad time. Ha! I recognize this one. I remember the 60s as if they were yesterday; and I would live them all over again if I could.
