Disinfecting fresh produce and other goods

I know I've always been particular about food hygiene. But since the outbreak, I've never been *this* particular about sanitizing our fresh produce and other provisions. When before I'd wash fruits and veggies only with tap water, I now have to add like a tablespoon of vinegar and some sprinkling of baking soda. If there's a chance to dry them under the sun, I would. I also now have to wipe canned goods, cartons etc. with sanitizing wipes. I used to just wash the top of the can with dish soap and water and wipe dry. Doing all these things is cumbersome, but we have to be extra careful now. Good thing my sister in Canada sent me lots of wipes last year along with boxes and boxes of bar soap and huge packs of tissue paper. I buy additional stock every time we go to the grocery. Do you bother to disinfect your groceries and fresh produce? * Image by Mittmac from Pixabay

I spray all packages coming in to the house with a bleach water solution. So far we still just wash fruits and vegetables by soaking or rinsing with running water. I think Maynilad water is chlorinated and its enough to immobilize the virus although I might try your suggestion.

Yes, this is a good discussion because the product that we buy may have been infected before.

@almostoveryou we don't sanitize food items that we buy. Maybe we have to. Just for safety.

Imagine having to wipe grocery items from 3 huge boxes. Huhuhu. It wears me off, really. I'm not used to buying groceries good for 2-3 weeks. So I get kinda overwhelmed w this new normal thingie.

I'm not sure about washing my food in bleach but we do take extra care to sanitise everything we get. For the veggies, we just use salty hot water and leave it at that.

Is that pure vinegar or do you add some water to it?

I put a weak bleach solution in the sink and put the produce in there. And use that solution to wipe all the packages.
