Yes, it's a good idea to get kids involved with crafting for projects, especially for gift-giving time of christmas, it's better to give than recieve and when you are a kid you might not understand that. I don't think wrapping paper would be a good project, it just just ripped up. Me & my son cut pictures out of old magazines and we made really great christmas cards though! Last year, my son made a christmas bulb out of a light bulb; painting it and glued decals on it. I keep that in a special box of it's own.

I buy it, but I work at a children's center and we've made it there with the kids before.

I usually buy my wrapping paper for Christmas, but sometimes I find myself needing to wrap gifts for other ocassions throughout the year, only to find I have no paper for it!! Then I'll sometimes make my own, either by turning an "inappropriate" paper inside out and using stickers or markers, or by using newspaper or plaing paper and decorating it. My son's only 6 months old, so I can't really make him design paper for me yet, but hopefully that can be one of his jobs when he's a little bit older!!!

I always buy Christmas paper but seldom buy birthday paper. When someone has a birthday we simply wrap the present with the white side showing. The children can then color, marker, and sticker a personalized design on the gift.

That is neat, but I hate spending money on soething that is only going to get torn apart. If you go anywhere to buy paper go to the Dollar Tree! I bought spongebob, elmo, disney princess, frosty, strawberry shortcake all for a dollar a roll! At walmart and lowes we bought the same paper last year for at least 3.50 a roll. Other than that, I buy gift bags from there too. I love that your kids school had them make their own paper,it gets those creative juices flowing.

Not sure I have ever made my own Christmas wrapping paper, but I have used brown paper bags to wrap stuff and then used like stamps and such to decorate them more from there. It can give everything a more personal touch.

I will do anything not to have to pay full price for a roll of wrapping paper! I reuse papers from gifts that I receive each year. The closest I have come to making my own gift wrap was by using a brown paper bag and then stamping with appropriate designs, characters, etc. I also will use the Sunday comics for kids' gifts. If I HAVE to buy paper, I go to the doolar store, especially after Christmas when they mark it down!

Although I think it would be a fun thing to make my own wrapping paper, I usually just go the easy route and buy ready made wrapping paper.

wow that's really interesting! i think these days wrapping paper is a waste of paper, and another environmentally quite unfriendly thing. however, shopping centres are giving out wrapping paper for free, so i don't know whether that adds to the tree killing. most people discard the wrapping after they open the present anyway. Personally, I seldom use wrapping paper so i seldom buy it. But I have never made my own wrapping paper!
