BOOM!!!

United States

Yesterday morning (Saturday), I went to bed shortly before 9 a.m. As I was about to fall asleep, BOOM!!! rumble rumble rumble. I said out loud, "What the hell was that!" It sounded like an explosion. I thought that it might have been an explosion, but where? Then I thought that it could have been one of those weird ground booms and rumbles that occasionally happen in very cold ground in the middle of a very cold winter. Nah. It's no longer winter. How about one big, huge thunder from an incoming storm? Or could it have even been a weird earthquake? I checked my phone to see if there was a storm heading this way but the radar was clear. So, I got up out of bed and went outside to see if I could see anything. Nope. I went back to bed and got my 8 hours sleep in. After I woke up, I checked on Facebook to see if there were any posts about the loud boom. It turns out that there was a controlled implosion of a nearby power plant that had been retired in 2016 after 63 years of operation. Several million dollars was spent to remove asbestos from the plant and quite a bit of time was spent on the placement of the explosives around the structure in order for the implosion to be safely successful. And now I know what the hell that BOOM!!! was.

I did have a bit of a scare at first because I didn't know right away what had happened. But when I didn't hear any sirens going off anywhere, I figured it wasn't all that bad.
