Yes, I have PCOS. I'm glad to hear people are able to have children after trying so hard. I lost most of my hair due to PCOS, and have a very hard time losing weight. I gain weight OK though! : ) I'm on Yasmin to try to minimize the hormone inconsistences, and also Metformin is used to try to balance my weight. I do get tired of doctors seeing I take Metformin because they assume I am diabetic.

Ambie, how are you doing with the metformin now? Is it improving the PCOS? I hope it is getting your body into a routine and making it easier to manage your PCOS. The one thing I hate about this all is explaining to people... explaining why it took so long to fall pregnant, explaining why I was emotional so much, explainging why Im not rushing back into pregnancy etc.

Sorry this is going to be long......... "I do get tired of doctors seeing I take Meformin because they assume I am diabetic" Or pharmacists giving you info on diabetes because you take met... I too am a PCOS sufferer!! I concieved my daughter (nearly 4yrs old) naturally and almost straight off the pill. After having her I decided since we planned to try for another when she was 1yr old, not to go back on the pill... this was my first mistake but also my saviour. Because of this decision I discovered (after 6-7mths of TTC) that all those weird problems I had had with my periods and body for 9 or so years had a name and made sense all of a sudden!!! Anyhow my doc suggested going back on the pill for 3mths and 2nd cycle off I was pregnant with our son (nearly 14mths), the exact same as with my daughter. So I am lucky enough that I have fallen pg "naturally" twice, so I tell PCOS sufferers to never assume anything and never ever give up!!!! Needless to say I was back on the pill as soon as I finished b/feeding my little man.... we plan to start TTC in sept... hopefully it will be 3rd time lucky!!! Take care all Till

The doctors are pretty sure I have it too. I gained over 50 pounds in less than 8 months and most of it was in the last 5. I have not had a period in four months and I am going insane over here. I hate this, I hate how it feels and I hate the most that everyone thinks I made my self fat. I was always skinny (112) at 5.4 and now I weigh 178 I hate it. People do not understand the trauma we go through. I have one child and almost lost him. I would like to have more in the future but the doc says I won't be able to??? My mother has it and she has 7 kids and she had it baddd. She had several cysts break on her, and it was painful. She did have a lot of miscarriages, but she still had 7 of us. any info would be great, becuase I am depressed, have panic attacks and headaches every day.

Thanks for sharing your story CatEyes. I hate when the doctors say you won't have kids, it doesn't allow you to create positivity or hope. Please remember that a lot of us have been told that we won't have children and we do. It does take time and lots of emotions but you can do it. When I was diagnosed with PCOS, I was hell-bent on getting pregnant, proving I could do it and it got me down. I had 1 incident when I was at the traffic lights waiting to cross the road and looked down as seen a baby in a pram, I burst into tears and sobbed, right there in the street. All my bottled-up emotions surfaced, I rang my husband at work and said I need help, I can't do this. Im losing it and Im depressed and I don't want to be anymore. This was when i woke up to it, PCOS was bigger than just getting pregnant, it is a condition that I have to live with my entire life... why was I just focusing on getting pregnant, I needed to change my opinion on life and my health. I promised my husband that I would go see the social worker (Defence force social workers) but on the way, I passed the movie theatre, I went in there and got a ticket for a comedy movie, I sobbed half-way through themovie but by the time it was finished, I had acepted my health condition. Accept it or live half a life was my motto. Then I decided that my health was more important than getting pregnant, Id love to get pregnant but i had to wotk ME out first, get my periods under control, deal with my emotional state first. I then went to the herbalist to see if they could help regulate my periods and I got herbal treatment, 4 months later I was pregnant. I do admit now that I was probably putting too much pressure on myself to get pregnant and when i relaxed and accept my health the way it is, it took alot of stress off me. What Im trying to say is you need to get your health worked out first. Read up on PCOS, try the low-carb diet and make sure you get tested for Insulin Resistance as this is a big issue for women with PCOS. Some women don't know that they have Insulin Resistance and that will make losing weight very hard. Good luck CatEyes, keep us posted as to how you are.

Lilmrasarata- Im sorry to hear you were diagnosed with PCOS. Although it is a life changing diagnosis, at least now you know what you can expect and you can work with it to manage it. Ambie, thank you for your support. If i may speak for Lil, I really think this is wonderful and the support is grately respected.

I know you want to get pregnant, but these are just a few tips for you when you aren't trying to. One is that the birth control Yasmin (not to be confused with Yaz), is good to control hair loss OR excessive hair growth in a PCOS sufferer. It also helps balance out your moods. As for gaining weight, and I totally sympathize with you, try taking a 1000mg tablet of Vitamin C once a day. It won't make you lose weight, but it helps make it easier to try. Apparently when a person gains weight around their middle (which is where a lot of PCOS patients gain it) it makes it hard for any weight to be lost because of how the stomach and abdomen retain the fat. Taking extra Vitamin C helps the flow move and provides a bigger possibility that a person will then lose weight. Sorry if I confused you, but I hope this helps.

I was diagnosed just last month and until now I'm still trying to accept it. The trips to OB we made last month affected me in so many ways..yes-it's a life changing diagnosis. For now, I'm trying to lose weight..eating low carb and walk at least 20 minutes a day for my exercise. I don't know If theres changes, I don't wanna check now. Very disheartening, I just trust God that He'll give us our bundle of joy soon.

Bettyboo, Im sorry that you were diagnosed with PCOS. I guess now at least you know what your dealing with and you can work on maintaining your health and managing your PCOS. The initial diagnosis is heart-wrenching. I remember the fears and feelings going through my head when I found out i had PCOS... Would i be able to have children? Would my husband feel differently towards me? What did this mean for us? Did I do something wrong? People without PCOS don't understand the fear or the life-changing circumstanses surrounding PCOS. I hope this discussion thread can be a support network and information thread for us all. A place where we can find information, have a chat and support each other, thats what we need.
