Earlier in the countdown of songs with jail or prison in the title I said there were two people on both countdowns (this one and the songs set in jail or prison without a mention in the title). It is no surprise who one of them is...and the singer of today’s song shouldn’t be a surprise, either. Here’s today’s song. #6: Christmas in Prison - John Prine Huh? John Prine did more than one jail song? I guess his “Illegal Smile” caught up to him. Prine described the loneliness in prison during the holidays, complete with a couple of humorous takes (“the food was real good, we had turkey and pistols carved out of wood”) and one of Prine’s trademark great lines (“she’s sweeter than saccharine at a drugstore sale”). Not one that gets covered much from Prine, but that doesn’t stop it from being a good song. Christmas in Prison Written by John Prine Recorded by John Prine From Sweet Revenge, 1973 I love you, goodnight:

Sort of a somber guy. This song could become unpleasantly appropriate come December.

Don't know this one. It didn't make my head hurt too badly.
