You know what I love about mylot?

No one completely "listens"
Whether it be mylot rules or rules of etiquette, people here do their own thing.
If someone asks something specific the question gets ignored
If someone asks a question in the title the discussion gets ignored
People only halfway read the discussion (I have been guilty of this), and no it doesn't really have anything to do with language barriers either. I've seen people clearly fluent in English only halfway read something.
How many of you are still reading now?
How many of you have already hit reply before you've even finished reading the discussion?
I can put things in bold, italics, or underlined and it doesn't matter. They can be surrounded by smiley faces and it doesn't matter. All caps? Nope, that doesn't matter either. People are only going to say what they want to say, and it doesn't matter if you get aggravated or not.
We can complain all we want about these things that irritate us too, does that matter? Nope, it doesn't.
What does aggravate me the most is when someone just writes "okay" or "thank you". For some reason I can tolerate the smiley faces a bit more, but if someone just writes okay or thank you? Well it's just a waste, isn't it?

See, right there? your response doesn't bother me, but it goes to prove that people will respond how they see fit
Also, what bothers you? the one word responses / comments?@isweartokira (3459)

@ScribbledAdNauseum well I was responding to all of it really, the one word stuff or not answering the question in the title/discussion, it's all annoying. also "thanks for sharing" gets on my nerves a bit, there's nothing to say to it and the conversation ends right there

@isweartokira Yeah, sometimes I feel like telling the "thanks for sharing" folks to just not bother commenting to me at all. Other times I'll actually try to strike up a conversation with them. I feel like the people who say "thanks for sharing", probably don't have the best grasp on the English Language though.
There used to be a lotter here who would use a translator. Atleast he tried!

I don't think it is something I love about mylot, but one thing I have noticed is that people respond to whatever part of t he discussion that catches their attention..3/4 of the discussion could be about something else..and they will respond to one part, and if one person does it, then others will respond to the same thing. It's weird that way.

I think I know what you are talking about. It seems to occur more around the first hour or so of the discussion being up. It's like people read the responses to get an idea of what the discussion is about, though I don't think that's entirely what is happening.
I think I've been guilty of doing that. I'll read the discussion, but I'll read a few of the responses and end up responding more to the responses than to the discussion itself.

I read the entire discussion so I won't say something stupid and look like a jerk. I mean, I have read something, and still said something that was already covered in the discussion.
Then again, I don't know how many times someone commented on my discussions and they ask a question I already answered if they had originally read the entire thing.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I do the same by not doing long posts. You put such effort into it, and it feels wasted when you get nothing or just two words.

@AmbiePam Exactly! The worse is those who say "ok dear." I know they understand enough English to write a paragraph discussion of their own, but when you try to carry on a conversation in the comments, that's all they give you. It's frustrating!

I try to keep my discussions as short as possible now. I used to write longer discussions and ended up being so bothered when someone didn't even read it! At one point in time, i would make the title catchy but nothing to do with the discussion itself. Catching people out on not reading was upsetting me more than the person, who didn't care and just kept doing it.
Now I make shorter discussions, and / or break them up by using bold or italics. I feel like a person is more likely to read a discussion that has been broken up in that way.
Yeah, I try to read an entire discussion so I don't say something stupid too, and if I don't feel like reading it? I don't respond.

I read the whole post. I don't know if I respond the way the writer wants me to respond; but I try. What do I love about MyLot? My friends.

I get a bit aggravated when I ask a question and a person doesn't even try to respond to it. I can understand if they didn't understand the question, but it irks me when they just ignore it...
I know that I don't always respond the way a person probably expects, but I I at least try to say more than the standard "hey, have a great day!" type of thing.. I don't know, I get irked here sometimes and then i realize there's no reason for me to.

Well that is your expectation and that's good for you. Everyone is free here to write whatever he wants. There's no rule for that. It's up you to ignore them or not. The point here: take it or leave it.

Certainly you can understand the frustration when you've asked a specific question and the question has been completely ignored? One would not sit at a cafe with a friend and ignore a question the person has asked, would they? Even if they did not wish to answer, they'd simply say so.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Well that's what it should be but you couldn't expect it all the time from anyone. There are people who talkative. There are who are not. You can't compel them to abide with your expectation.
I know you aware that everyone has a unique personality. He is classified according to his disposition in life, to his attitude, to his mental ability and faculty. And you have to understand it and respect it.
You're too different from others. As I have said you are one of a kind. You're unique. If you want your fellow to meet your standard, you can't. You will only be frustrated. So it pays a lot to be considerate. Try to put yourself on their shoes and you will know why.

Yes, mylot is straight forward when it comes to the HTML they use.
I try to write discussions relatable to everyone, and break it down so that it doesn't seem like too much. I, myself, do not like discussions that are just blocks of paragraphs. It makes me feel as if I am in school again!

either i read the whole discussion or i don't read it at all. that's why i mostly choose to read short discussions, but sometimes i take my time and read those that are longer. that "okay" and "thanks" can be irritating, but i guess that's how people are. sometimes i feel like answering to "thanks" with "you're welcome" just to see what happens next

I've answered "thanks" with "your welcome" before. I've even tried to ask more questions or say something to prompt them to say more. I usually get a smiley face and thumbs up in return. It's only one or two people who do it now. I've tried to encourage them to say more before, but they don't.
Yes, I agree. Sometimes I'll read a long discussion, but I do not think many people will.
