The above clipping was found on loc.gov and came from The Newberry Herald of February 26, 1879. The Newberry Herald was the local paper for Newberry, South Carolina.
I love this ad, because I think it would be the exact type of ad that I would be looking for in the paper at that time. Of course, I may or may not have been literate. If you go my ancestral line, we come from farmers (as I am sure, many do) as well as preachers. We also lived in rural areas, historically.
Anyway...
I figured since I liked looking at ads, and have shared some here, I'd just make a "series" out of it.
Are you more a television / movie person or a reader?

I haven't been able to concentrate on reading a book in quite some time. I've only read one in the past six months. I used to read one a week. I'm more of a television/movie person right now.

I go through stages where I will watch more television and read less, I'm in that right now.
Have you tried audio books? I believe people are now uploading audiobooks to youtube.

@LindaOHio Oh okay, I understand. I have a lot of physical books, but I read from my phone just as often, if not more often now.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I like a real book in my hands. I don't think I'd care for audio books.

I am too, but I have not read a lot at all lately! I need to rectify that.

I am more of a TV and movie person, but I can certainly get into a good or entertaining book. reading one now, that is so, so.

I am the opposite. I used to love television, but now I barely turn it on unless it's youtube. I can turn it on and get invested in something though if I really wanted to.

That looks interesting. 1879! Wow.
Reading is usually more interesting for me.

I agree with you there. I like to imagine the scenes and the characters, movies / tvs do not allow for that.

Oh I see. Can you watch a movie by yourself? I find that I don't like doing that. I prefer to watch a movie with people for some reason.
