This is a book that is dedicated to the subject of Mermaids . The book tells us how images of Mermaids have been used in art and folklore over many centuries.
Mermaids are often seen in artwork sitting on a rock combing their hair while looking in a mirror, or in some cases, they would be playing a harp. Some superstitions say that Mermaids were thought of as being bad luck for sailors , and other stories told of Mermaids marrying sailors so that they could gain a soul and become human.
This is an interesting subject with many films being made of it over the years.

It is surprising what we think is real when we are children. It is a shame we have to grow up and think about things logically.

According to some of the stories, they were supposed to lure sailors to their deaths. Many sailors in the old days thought mermaids to be unlucky. But then many sailors thought women going to sea was unlucky and they would not have women any where near their ships.
