Which is the best dog to own as a pet? ( My experience)

I have had lot many dogs as pets and have proud memories with all of them.
When I was a child my parents brought in a doberman pup which I named Tiger. A Very active dog needing lot of exercise and long walks. He was a fast eater, played a lot and barked very loud. Lived with us for about 5 years and then had to be given to my father's friend as we moved out.
Then I owned a mongrel ( mixed breed) named Tomy commonly found in India. A light brown colour dog with strong body and constantly wagging tail. Had no special choice of food. He ate the same vegetarian diet of Rice mixed with sambar or butter milk and roties ( Indian pancakes made of wheat powder). Throughout his entire life of about 8 years never needed to go to the vet and was healthy and happy. Barked only when required. One day out of curiosity left the house and wandered the neighbourhood street and returned home appearing normal but died within a few hours. I could only speculate must have died due to food poisoning.
Next few months were really traumatic for our family as he was very close to me and my family.
Later during my college days in the mid 90's a dad's friend gifted a Lhasa Also pup and we named him Rocky I had never seen such a teddy like pup in my whole life and with no internet then; searching for the dog details and how to care for such a strange dog was tough and a slow learning process. By reading books we learnt about the dog breed and their Tiberian origin. Lhasa Apaso dogs are small breed dogs and best for people living in apartment buildings. Require less space, medium level of exercise but high on grooming needs. Require to be vaccinated, dewormed , good fur coat care and occasional vet visits for minor stomach indigestion. Barking was short and muffled. Neighbours very much liked his barks.
Had a great personality and learnt to understand words spoken by me and my family members quite fast. When he wanted to go for a walk would bring his harness, touch the cooler and barked when he was feeling hot, opened the balcony window on his own. Food habits were just two eggs and milk twice a day with occasional rotis or chapaties. Main advantage was his size. We could snuggle him in our arms when ever we went on a vacation. He had preference for my mother while he slept, preferred me for his food, my younger brother for play and my dad for his walks. Could identify a family member by the sound from a distance and wag his tail. My Lhasa lived a long and happy life and died due to old age at 13. Died on my mother's lap. His death brought a deep sense of loss to our family.
For me and my family owning a Lhasa Apso was the most cherished experience of our life.

I had one dog of my own and loved her so much. She was a lab-huskie. I love any kind of lab and a huskies for dog but since they are big cannot have one here. We have a small apartment so it is just my cat and myself. I admire you after something happened to your dogs that you got another one. I can see how hard it would be to get another now.

Yes it's a tough decision to keep another dog when you loose your favourite dog whom you treated like a son or brother .

That is not it. I really do not want to walk a dog 3 times a day and we live in a small place so no room for a dog now.

We had a couple of dogs when I was a kid. I had a dauschund as an adult..the one in my profile pic. He was kind of a hyper dog..he had serious separation anxiety as well. He was cute, but if I got another dog, it wouldn't be that breed.

There is no specific "best dog" to own as a pet given it is really dependent on the person caring for the dog. My dog snowy was amazing she was a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel I had since I was 6 till I was 19 so we had her for 13 years. She was the best dog for my family at the time. My friend has a purebred German Shepherd named Hazel she is a gorgeous dog and very energetic even in her old age she was perfect for his family.

Agree. Best dog breed varies from personal choice and experience.
