Let’s see...if we have my teenybopper on one end of these two countdowns about the lockdown (being stuck in the house and yearning for freedom), where can I go from there? Oh, yeah, one of the “girl singers” on one of my favorite syndicated country music shows! Here’s today’s song with “free” in the title. #7: I Wanna Be Free - Loretta Lynn Ah, the good ol’ days, when Porter Wagoner and the Wilburn Brothers’ TV shows aired on Saturday afternoon after the “game of the week.” Most of the syndicated country shows back then had a male star and a featured “girl singer.” You’ve probably heard of Porter’s “girl singer,” Dolly somebody. The Wilburn Brothers had a pretty fair “girl singer,” too: Loretta Lynn. The pride of Butcher Holler (John Roberts and I have both made pilgrimages there), Loretta is now an American icon. Those who don’t like country music (and you know who you are ) know who she is, at the very least. This song is about a woman whose unhappy marriage has graduated to the husband leaving. She’s got a solution for that: “I’m gonna take this chain from around my finger and throw it just as far as I can sling her.” Not a well-remembered Loretta Lynn hit (even though it did well on the charts at the time), but a fine song....with a title that most people who’ve been stuck on lockdown for two months can relate to! I Wanna Be Free Written by Loretta Lynn Recorded by Loretta Lynn From I Wanna Be Free, 1971 I can hardly hear and I can’t half-see:
"I Wanna Be Free" is a single by American country music artist Loretta Lynn. Released in February 1971, it was the first single from her album I Wanna Be Fre...

I'm very familiar with Loretta Lynn but not the song. We will be very close to Butcher Holler on our trip.
