Hello everyone. "May" Is called as the "Mental Health Awareness Month". There is stigma in context of many spheres that people may judge or would not accept us that stops us from opening up. It is important to break the stigma and start living. We should be aware and open in sharing concerns we may feel and go through. Let us be together, be aware and share our concerns and live soulfully. Let us build a society of empathy, love and acceptance. In this month, I would say something about mental health: Mental health is taking care of yourself, being aware of self and living in the moment. How do you see mental health?

Mental health is the condition of being sound mentally and emotionally that is characterized by the absence of mental illness and by adequate adjustment. Unfortunately, there are too many unstable, odd, and strange people in our world who need to seek professional help.

Well said. Yes there are many and many don't come out due to the stigma attached.

Even in this day and age, there are still people who think badly of someone who suffers from mental health.

@shubhu3 Yes I have but I have also encountered a lot more people who are supportive so things are slowly changing.

Mental health in simple words for me is feeling good about myself and happily accepting who I am with all my capacities and limitations in the situation that life has in store for me.

Mental health is a complex subject. We should all be aware of those who need help.

Yes that is right. And we should be careful of what and how we say something to someone. We don't know what people may go through and don't share.

I told someone I knew that I was undergoing counseling and he told me that getting help makes me weak because it means I need to rely on others and I'm not independent enough. (what? ) I told him that he is one of those people that contributes to the stigma around mental health and why people sometimes feel so ashamed to get help... Particularly men... He denied it and was all "nah I'm totally supportive just only if people pull themselves out of their slump" I will admit I tore into him a bit and I am not proud of that... He didn't realise a slump in mood is different to the soul crushing weight of depression...

I can completely understand this. Some people don't understand or have empathy towards the ones undergoing counselling. I can understand. The stigma is attached.

@Fa_Maverick See everyone is different. Some people like sharing while some needs a solitude time at that point of time. Different things work for each person.

@shubhu3 and that depression can be different for everyone... When I get bad I need people to talk to but when my friend gets bad he withdraws to deal. I can understand that he needs space to deal but I also don't in a way which makes me get anxious that maybe he has hurt himself

Mental health is as important as our physical health. We should pay attention to it more.
