How did they pull the stones?

We admire at the Egyptian pyramid built around 2500 BC and how huge stone were brought across the dessert to the site. But have you wondered how such massive stones were pulled across the sand offering no special benefit. Elephant can't be used, camels were not suitable for pulling heavy load. Thousands of workers did pull the massive stone blocks using wooden sleds but what really helped these sleds to slide on the dry sand without sinking under the weight? Just think over how the Egyptians solved this issue? Do you think they just kept pulling ? Did they use more people as it became harder? Did they add more wooden sleds ?
