Lost in the 'burbs

'This isn't my neighborhood.' That was my first thought after turning down one street and finding myself surrounded by large houses with well manicured lawns. Of course, I did not say anything to my companions, who trusted me to find our way out of here. I'm not sure where I made a wrong turn, but I must have. I itched to turn and look at the street sign again, but I did not want to alert my friends to the fact that we were lost. Instead, I kept walking until we crossed another street and looked at the sign there. "Edgewood St." Well, that street name was familiar, but none of the houses were. Off in the distance sat tall buildings, further proof that we were nowhere near home. I turned to my friends, ready to confess that we were lost. I looked to my oldest friend to see the truth in her eyes, she was well aware that we were mot where we were supposed to be. She shook her head slightly, indicating that I should keep quiet. I sighed, but turned and led the group towards the city just beyond. --- Then I woke up, but not really. More happened, including a sort of scramble to find materials for survival.
