About half a century ago bullock carts were common on the streets of India and some Asian countries. It was infact the most preferred mode of transport for the common man. Horse cart did exist but they were not used in villages due to higher maintenance and bad village roads. The ride was bumpy but quite melodious due to the jingling of the bells hung around the neck of the bulls and the intermittent wacking sound made by the whip which the cart driver used, to maintain momentum.
Kids enjoyed the journey and often fell asleep due to the constant rickety movement of the carts. Often presence of bullock cart in front of a village house indicated the arrival of visitors from far away town and villages, particularly during marriages. Kids often followed the carts to check who was visiting.
Bullock carts do exist today but mostly in very remote villages to transport food grains from the farm to the market yard and soon may get extinct only to be found in museums and story books.
Hope you enjoyed reading my nostalgic story about bullock carts of the bygone age.
Have you ever sat on a bullock cart or a horse driven cart . How was your experience?

We have those carts in the picture here but not for transport. They are the ambulant vendors of native handicrafts like woven baskets, broom, etc.

@jayanth_77 but only in Metro Manila that we can see that. They are coming from the province of Bulacan. They are quite rare now.

Nice to know that such carts are still found in your country and used by petty vendors of handicrafts and woven baskets.

@amitkokiladitya yes take your family along. The younger generation must be made aware of the past and how things have changed with time.
